On the basis of the sex: the woman who made history

Felicity Jones became the intrepid justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Playing one of the women who marked world history in the defense of civil rights was one of the greatest challenges in Felicity Jones’s career.

In On the basis of the sex, Jones embodies Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the justice of the Supreme Court of the United States who has dedicated her life to eradicate gender discrimination.

Jones plays the first years as a lawyer of a very young Ginsburg (now 85 years old) and the beginnings of her feminist demands in courts. Under the direction of filmmaker Mimi Leder, Jones underwent a rigorous preparation to play her character that, added to the costumes and makeup, resulted in a great resemblance between both women.

A Rocky of Justice

In fact, the British actress spoke as if she were the justice while on set in an effort to perfect the characteristic Brooklyn accent, where the magistrate is from. "Of course I seemed crazy, but I was totally involved in the interpretation of my character," said this English star, in a recent presentation of the film to the press.

Jones also compared Ginsburg to "Rocky”, noting that nothing could knock her out of the ring.
