Happy Birthday, Vera Farmiga!

The actress turns 48 years old

Vera Farmiga is an American actress, producer, and director who was born in New Jersey in 1973. The daughter of Ukrainian immigrant parents and sister of Taissa Farmiga, known for starring in the series American Horror Story, Vera studied piano and dance and dreamed of becoming an optometrist. But she changed her mind after high school: she decided to study acting at Syracuse University.

Her beginnings in the acting world were with her debut on Broadway in the play Taking Sides. Later, in 1997, she participated in a television program known as Roar, alongside Heath Ledger.

Her first big screen film was Return to Paradise, but the international recognition came with the release of Down to the Bone, where she won the award for Best Actress at the Sundance Film Festival and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award for Best Actress. Even so, nowadays anyone can identify her as the protagonist of The Conjuring saga, where she played medium and clairvoyant Lorraine Warren.

Another of Vera Farmiga's outstanding films is Captive State, a movie set ten years after an alien occupation where humans are divided into rebels and collaborators. Gabriel, the main character, joins the Terran resistance in Chicago but is not yet aware of the danger that is coming.
